Major Vistas formed in 2015 with the shared goal of writing and performing melodic, soulful and dynamic instrumental music that blends Jazz and Rock. Their first recording Minor Anthems was released in mid 2016 and features original compositions with an emphasis on improvisation.
The trio features a blend of instrumentation that lends itself to a unique spacious sonority, wherein each instrument is featured. The role of a traditional bass player is handled by keyboardist Mike Weiser, who plays a modern version of B3 organ style with walking bass lines, comping and soloing – simultaneously.
Mike Weiser: Mike studied music at University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, Western Washington University, and Berklee with a focus on composition, arranging, orchestration, and improvisation. After earning a degree in music, he moved to Seattle in the mid-90’s and became an active member of the local music scene, playing in numerous jazz groups, electronic collaborations, and rock bands. In 2007, Mike moved to New York City where he studied with pianist Madeline Bruser (author of The Art of Practicing), Andy Milne (Steve Colman), and Jason Linder (David Bowie, Now Vs Now). In 2008, Mike started working as a soundtrack composer with national and international video game and app developers. He’s composed soundtracks for over 50 games and educational apps. In 2014, Mike returned to Wisconsin where he performs, teaches music, and composes soundtracks for commercial and artistic projects.
Chris Bucheit: Chris has been a guitarist most of his life and has studied with private instructors in many different genres, including Classical, Jazz, Latin and Rock. He has performed regionally and nationally as a solo performer and with the Chris Bucheit Group. He has competed and been a finalist in songwriting competitions and national guitar contests. He’s produced 5 albums over the last 15 years that feature Rock, Jazz and Solo Guitar. His second CD “Hand to Mouth” received Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s “Homegrown CD Award”. In 2011 he completed the Masters Jazz Guitar Certificate with Berklee Music Online, attended the National Guitar Workshop, Jazz Summit as a Yamaha Six String Theory Contest finalist and attended the Pat Metheny Jazz Camp.
Geoff Brady: Geoff studied music and percussion at the Interlochen Arts Academy, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the University of Wisconsin. His teachers included Alan Dawson, James Latimer, and members of the Detroit and Boston Symphonies. Since settling in Madison, Wisconsin, Brady has been an active performer in genres ranging from Classical to Klezmer to Jazz to Rock. Geoff has composed music for and performed regionally and nationally with the klezmer ensemble Yid Vicious. He has recorded and performed extensively with beloved Madison rock stalwarts the Gomers, utilizing drums, glockenspiel, vibraphone, and theremin. In 2006 Geoff released a solo recording entitled Fob which features his original compositions for vibraphone.
